MEET THT ARTIST
Crissi Rice, native , wife , mother , artist , natural hair enthusiast and Social worker.
Crissi is the Founder of KC Curly, a huge photo shoot in Kansas city that promotes empowerment within the natural hair community.
Her passion for art was discovered in 2014 . She had a vision about black women and the beauty behind their hair. My work explores the relationship between women , the world and expressions of inner beauty.
Growing up going to Art museums , I really didn't see a lot of representation of women artists. In 2014 I started my art journey having a version to make it a point to show the inner beauty of men/ women and their hair.
My inspiration comes from the women in my family. Most of the women in my family are artists also. They have taught me so much about life and art.
My focal point is about the history of women and expressing different techniques through their hair to tell a story. My method of choice is mix-medium within the genre of contemporary art. I love using different materials to explore the story of women and their identity . Creating emotional interpretations of art through empowering women. My intentions are to reflect this idea through my art and a means to broaden the conversation.
